Richard Dawkins, Is He Real?

..I mean I cannot be sure can I? All I have is a lot of indirect evidence supporting the idea that Richard is real, but still we could all be in a dream machine could we not?

You see this is my problem with Atheism, a non-belief can never be a belief in itself can it? shall I knock on my neighbours door and ask him if he as heard the bad news?

So after browsing the God Delusion, I thought I might help Richard out a little, a shortcut so to speak.

"If the probability of something happening is less than about 1e-15 (or 0.000000000000001) it is considered to be impossible. The probability of life occurring 'by accident' is far less than this, therefore it must be a miracle caused by God.."

There is a lot wrong with the above statement itignores the size of the universe. There are hundreds of billions of galaxies, each with hundreds of billions of stars, any of which might have planets capable of supporting life. Even an "impossibly improbable" event is almost a certainty (and we already know of one planet that supports life).

Lets experiment! Shuffle a deck of playing cards, and lay them out on a table. The probability of the sequence you see appearing is 1/52 for the first card, 1/52 x 1/51 at the second card, 1/52 x 1/51 x 1/50 by the third card and so on. The probability that you produced the sequence you just did is 1/52 x 1/51 x 1/50......x 1/3 x 1/2 x 1/1 ( more simply, 1/(52!) ), or 1.2398e-68 (which is an incredible 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000012398). How can this be?!? Maybe you are hallucinating and it did not actually occur?

You have just done something statistically impossible, trillions of times more unlikely than the formation of life (some say 1e-50 is the "impossibility threshold" instead, but we've beaten that as well). You could even do it six times before breakfast every day.

Dawkins, TWIT.

It pains me to say it, as I am a big fan of Dawkins scientific intellectual work. BUT he is a very poor philosopher and certainly not a social scientist.

Non-belief is not a belief in itself, it never has been and never will, but this is a new low for Dawkins,

>>When you think about how fantastically successful the Jewish lobby has been, though, in fact, they are less numerous I am told - religious Jews anyway - than atheists and [yet they] more or less monopolise American foreign policy as far as many people can see. So if atheists could achieve a small fraction of that influence, the world would be a better place<<, MORE HERE

The people that hold power in the USA are the American citizens themselves through their constitution, in fact I would go further, they have much more democratic and Liberal (classical) rights than do we here in the UK and certainly in many parts of EUrope.

The idea of small groups of Jews holding large amounts of undue influence was an idea that lead to the near extermination of the Jewish people in Europe. Also the Idea that if the Jews left Israel and Israel ceased to be then all would be well in the middle east is also a sick idea. It would be a thin end of a very large wedge, remember the Madrid bombers claimed justification for their action against Spain for its annexation of "Muslim Lands"

I would also point out that the Great Infidel himself philosopher David Hume who was one of the fathers of modern Conservatism, is an intellectual beacon to many Theists and Atheists alike, thus we can make common cause in the pursuit of natural law and justice, for the common good.

Its the "Modern" Liberal view of relativism (which is also at the heart of Marxism) that is a threat to modernity just as much as Islamist are.

Our Godless Youth

>>Nearly half of teenagers in Britain are atheists, according to a new Mori poll commissioned by the British Library<< MORE HERE

Well as someone who does not believe in the supernatural, you would expect someone like me to be boundlessly happy about the future...but alas I am not, our youth maybe Godless but they are far from faithless, which is what is really important, from new age drug taking, to tree hugging earth worshipers, and indoctrinated with plenty of post-modernist anti-reality propaganda at uni, our youth are probably the most religious generation since the English civil war.

I am not optimistic for them, unlike the Drink Soaked Trots, And a hat tip and a hearty cheers to them as well.

The problem is not God, in any form whatsoever its "faith", believing in stuff that has no roots in reality is the real problem.

John Humphrys' Finds God.....

.....with a little help from Immanuel Kant and his transcendental Idealism no doubt?

What next, will he follow  Kant and support the death penalty?  wonders never cease with our modern Liberal elite.

S&M has the Classical Liberal approach through Adam Smith to counter Hump's new found rationale.

(And yes in principle I am in favour of the death penalty, its is without doubt the stronger moral argument for punishment for murder, just as soon as a full proof practical system of administration is agreed we can make a start)
